Apprenticeship Collaborators
Building Teacher Apprenticeships Together
Each registered teacher apprenticeship in Texas must be developed in partnership with four key collaborators: a school system, a sponsor, a higher education institution, and a regional workforce board. Together, these partners ensure the apprenticeship meets federal standards, aligns with educator preparation requirements, addresses local workforce needs, and provides a high-quality experience for aspiring teachers.
Learn More About Collaborators
DISTRICTS, ISDS, CHARTER NETWORKS
Recruit and employ teacher apprentices (allotting at least 20% of teacher/paraprofessional openings within five years), provide structured on-the-job learning with mentor teachers, and facilitate alignment with certification requirements.
IHES- COMMUNITY COLLEGES, 4-YEAR INSTITUTIONS, AND EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS
Deliver coursework that meets degree and certification requirements, ensure alignment with state and federal apprenticeship regulations and quality guidelines, and support candidates through academic advising and course schedules that enable apprentices to work and attend college courses. EPPs must be Accredited and in good standing.
Support the development and implementation of teacher apprenticeships by identifying resources for teacher apprenticeships, developing a seamless process with the Board contractor to vet prospective teachers for funding eligibility, and referring potential apprentices to participating ISDs.
i.e., ESCS, NON-PROFITS, IHES, WORKFORCE BOARDS, LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Act as the program sponsor, ensuring compliance with U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) and Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) apprenticeship standards, managing program registration, and reporting, and providing funding guidance to sponsored entities. Sponsors agree to serve as a hub that will enable the scale of teacher apprenticeships across Texas.
